3. He Gives Liberal Politics A Bad Name

Let's not get bogged down with who supports what or which political party is better (this is a non-partisan article after all). Whatever side of the line you deem yourself a part of, one thing seems clear about Brian Griffin: he is a poor representative of left-wing idealism. Let's take his views on marijuana as a clear-cut example. His support for its legalisation is well-known amongst fans of the show, as well as the rest of the cast. Whatever our opinion of it, Brian does nothing to use his intelligence to convince the citizens of the fictional Quahog of any benefits (medical, social or any other kind) it may have. His views aren't even that shocking or transgressive when you consider many people have already said everything there is to say about marijuana. Sure, in one episode he manages to get it legalised. Does he do it through reasoned debate, facts and figures or even getting petitions signed by other supporters? Nope. He does it with a lavish musical number, concocting the world's first choreographed dance routine slash pot party. The idea wasn't even his. It was suggested by Stewie when Brian's lonely soapbox rants fell on deaf ears. So marijuana becomes legal. Everyone is happy. That is until Brian is given a chance to become a best-selling author by having his first novel shoot to the top of the charts. All he has to do is convince everyone that pot should be banned again. Which he does. Successfully. And this is the biggest problem of all. Through all the liberal integrity he claims to have, Brian is willing to flip-flop on his heartfelt views for personal benefit. When it comes down to it, he will lie and shun his own beliefs in order to better himself rather than those around him. He even changed sides during an episode where he read right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh's book. Does that sound like the kind of person who represents the left-wing community (in TV terms, at least)?
