4 Things Big Brother Has Done Trying To Improve Viewership

BigBrother 6 It€™s time for Channel 5 to evict Big Brother. As an avid Big Brother fan that is very hard for me to say; but it€™s the right time. I still love it, I have it on series record and I watch every episode. I still find Big Brother as entertaining and interesting as I did the first time I watched it. The problem is: not too many people feel the same way as I do. The live launch of this year€™s Big Brother has been the least watched in the history of the show, with an average of 2.1 million viewers. That was a slide of 600,000 from the previous year. On Channel Two at the same time as the Big Brother launch night was a documentary on Cats - Horizon: The Secret Life Of The Cat - which pulled in an audience of 4.9 million. It appears the viewers find cats more interesting than the housemates. These disappointing viewing figures come after Big Brother made several changes in a mini revamp of the show. Here are four things they changed hoping to improve viewing figures:

4. Presenting Team

The biggest change in the presenting team has seen Emma Willis replace Brian Dowling as host of the main show. This was despite Dowling signing a two-year contract with Channel 5 only last year. The introduction of a new Channel 5 boss prompted the change of heart. This change was an expensive one as Brian Dowling was awarded a £100,000 pay off. Emma Willis is seen as a more natural presenter and is a throwback to Big Brother during its success on Channel 4 when it had Davina McCall as its host. Despite Emma Willis€™ popularity with viewers, the change hasn€™t stopped less people tuning in. There was nearly an embarrassing slip-up from Willis on her first live eviction when she almost mistakenly said Channel 4 instead of five. There has also been change on the spin-off show, Big Brother€™s Bit on the Side, where Rylan Clark and AJ Odudu have replaced Jamie East and Alice Levine. Rylan Clark€™s large fan base has helped Bit on the Side viewing figures remain similar to last year€™s figures. As for AJ Odudu, Big Brother Housemate Dan Neal is forever going on about fellow contestant Callum Knell€™s €˜awkward and cringe niceness€™, well, someone should warn him about the awkward and cringe presenting which awaits him. If Emma Willis is a natural presenter; AJ Odudu is anything but.
