5 Awesome TV Locations That You Must Visit

4. Caerphilly Castle, South Wales Valleys: Merlin

Caerphilly Caerphilly Castle of Wales is used in the 'Lancelot and Guinevere' episdoe of Merlin, portrayed as the decaying stronghold of bandit leader, Hengist. In the episode, the bandit leader has kidnapped Gwen, thinking she is Morgana and holds her for Ransom. The great hall of the castle is used as the main filming location as well as the Guard House. However, only the great hall is open to the public (and for Weddings). Lancelot is filmed talking to talking to Gwen from one of the castle's hallways into her cell, despite the fact that the cell scene is filmed in a studio in Cardiff, just a few miles away. Basically, if you're ever out and about around Cardiff make sure you take a quick detour up to Caerphilly Castle, whilst also being part of one of the BBC's adventure programmes, it is a wonderfully historic castle. Well worth a visit.
