4. Dublin Murder Squad Series By Tana French
Tana French can just flat out write. Her prose is so beautiful, it's almost tear-inducing. For the uninitiated, get reading. Start with her first, In The Woods and don't look back. She sucks you into her worlds so fast, you'll lose your own perception of reality. The interesting thing that French does is focus on a new main character with each passing novel this leaves a network in an interesting position with the ability to go after bigger named talent because they won't be required to sign long term deals. American Horror Story kind of pioneered this way of thinking and it helps to keep things fresh year after year. To this date, French has completed four novels and is about to release her fifth. In each novel, a supporting player takes center stage in the next novel and so on. It not only keeps things moving but it more fully rounds out her entire cast of characters and thus builds an enormous, fully realized world. How the hell has this property not been snapped up yet? The stories are always full of clever mysteries, dark humor, action, realistic police work and characters that evolve rather than make illogical leaps only to serve the story. This is the type of show the BBC is knocking out of the park right now with the likes of Luther and Broadchurch.
