2. Car vs. Bicycle vs. TFL vs. Motorboat
Of all the distances raced on Top Gear, and of all the places around the world they've been to, London isn't exactly the most exotic. What it was though, was highly compelling. A simple 17 mile race to see which was the best mode of transport to get across the nation's capital during rush hour. Four different ways were competing, and so this time Clarkson, Hammond and May were joined by the Stig, who took public transport that was on offer courtesy of Transport For London: first a bus, then the tube, and finally the Overground to get to the destination of London's City Airport. James May Drove a Mercedes Benz GL Class through the streets of London, while Richard Hammond combined the steets with cycle lanes on a Bicycle. Jeremy Clarkson meanwhile, took to the Thames in a Cougar Speedboat. Although Clarkson was restricted to 9 miles an hour until he passed under Wandsworth bridge, once he had he was able to speed up to 45 miles an hour, arguably becoming the fastest man in London's Monday morning rush hour. The Stig's journey was fairly mundane in comparison, but as always jokes were made at his expense. May meanwhile had trouble with the congestion charge, and was stopped by the Police who were checking his filming permit. All the while Hammond was able to zip through the traffic, dodge buses, and even stopping at red lights couldn't stop him from arriving at the Airport first. He was then joined by Clarkson and the Stig, and finally James May, proving that driving is the worst way to travel through London.
