4. Arthur
This American/Canadian Educational TV Children's series is in fact still going. Launched in 1996, it has been shifted about between three different channels - initially PTV between its original inception until 1999, PBS Kids between 1999 and 2004, and latterly, PBS Kids Go! from 2004 to the present day. Revolving around the life of an eight year old anthropomorphic aardvark, the show is the second longest running animated series in the US - just behind the Simpsons. The show follows Arthur and his pest sister DW - who is often the bane of his life - along with best friend and local rabbit "Buster", as well as a host of other characters as they deal with life events such as the death of a pet, dyslexia, and more recently cancer, Asperger syndrome and Alzheimer's disease. The show is credited for dealing with social and health related issues.
