2. Jim Rash
You may recognise him as: After guest appearances in American comedy shows throughout the 90s and 00s (most notably recurring parts as Fezs rival Fenton in That 70s Show and whore house owner Andrew in Reno 911!, as well as a brief appearance in the final episode of Friends), Rash has spent the past four years in the role that most people will recognise him from. As Craig Pelton, Communitys clueless college dean, attempting to enforce political correctness and equality whilst espousing a great deal of politically incorrect opinions and an increasingly strange set of dressing up costumes, Rash gave audiences a character that was popular enough to make the step up from a recurring guest star to part of the regular cast. But you may not know: As well as appearing in Community, Rash is also a writer for the show, having worked on various screenplays with comedy partner Nat Faxon (the lead actor in cancelled after one season sitcom Ben and Kate). Their adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings Hawaii set novel of a family in crisis The Descendants appeared on the Black List in 2008. The script was picked up by Sideways director Alexander Payne and filmed with George Clooney for a 2011 release, winning much critical acclaim and a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for Rash and Faxon. The Descendants success allowed the writers to develop their own project, penning a screenplay based in part on Rashs own teenage years. The film, The Way, Way Back, which Rash and Faxon directed themselves, was released this month to equally positive reviews as their first.
