5 Reasons Carnivale Should Be Revived On Netflix

1. It Was Supposed To Last Longer

HBOHBOThe most disheartening thing about Carnivale's premature cancellation was that it was originally intended to run for six years. After the shows demise, Knauf revealed that he had planned out every major plot detail so all of the seemingly disparate threads which were never resolved would all come together in the series finale. Hardcore fans compared the shows cancellation to finding the best book ever made, just to discover that the only copy which exists has two thirds of the pages ripped out. In 2007, Knauf released the original pitch document which outlined the direction Carnivale would have taken... and it sounds incredible. That's the real kicker. If it had been given more of a chance, it seems that Carnivale would have improved season by season, tying everything together towards one colossal showdown at the end. Season three would have been set five years later, following individual characters after everyone at the Carnivale has left and gone their separate ways. Brother Justin would have become an influential radio preacher while Iris and Sofie fight over the power he wields. A mystery throughout the season would have revolved around Sofie's child and whether the father was Hawkins or Brother Justin (her husband/father!). Season four would begin at the advent of World War II, where the Carnies begin to reassemble, moving into Europe in order to find talismans that would help them defeat the forces of evil. The final two seasons would have revolved around the invention of the atomic bomb and Hawkin's quest to stop it from being used. Ben believes the Manhattan Project will bring about the end of the world, but in reality, it would only result in the end of the Avatars, of himself and Brother Justin. Hawkins ultimately decides to let the bomb go off as he realizes that it needs to happen, that preventing the explosion would hold mankind back forever in a state of adolescence. As the Omega, Sofie must sacrifice her and Ben's child in the blast... for some reason that still eludes me.

While it is exciting for fans to know the direction Carnivale would have taken, a revival on Netflix would not have to necessarily follow this plan to the letter, still allowing for surprises along the way.

When HBO ended Carnivale, the fans were outraged and bombarded the network with complaints and petitions, all to no avail. Some extremely dedicated fans even sent old-fashioned 1000 character long telegrams begging for the show to be renewed. Since Carnivale went off the air, the fan base has actually grown and with the recent success of Netflix produced shows, now is the perfect time to renew the one of the most original and intelligent shows ever produced for television.

Does Carnivale still have a chance to be renewed on Netflix or is too late? Remember to let us know what you think in the comments section below and start sharing this article. Remember, the campaign starts here!
