1. Supernatural
What: Supernatural is a horror drama series which started its run on the WB in 2005. It has now aired seven seasons and will air its eighth on October 3, 2012 on the CW. It stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, who hunt supernatural monsters usually derived from myths, legends, and religion. Though it is procedural at times, Supernatural usually has an overarching story especially from season one to five. The initial premise for those five seasons started with the brothers' father disappearing and their venture into finding his whereabouts. It quickly spirals into something far deeper and branches into a surprising turn of lore that has kept its cult followers loyal and hungry for more.
Why: As an avid Supernatural fan boy, I'm with the general consensus that this show should have ended with season five. It didn't and though I'm glad I have my Supernatural fix every year, the quality has taken a plunge for the worst. It is good when it's good, but it's also clear that there is no plan or end goal now that the show keeps getting renewed. Why a movie? Because there are so many more myths and legends that this show will probably never touch in its run. There is only so much this show can feature without losing its sense of universality and at most it can only graze the thought of having such entities appear in the Supernatural world. A feature-length movie has every option to expand as it could be seen as a separate story on its own without worrying too much about what should remain consistent. Fans have continuously predicted or even suggested the direction in which Supernatural should take; with a film, perhaps the concept of Cthulu would not be too farfetched after all.
And like Angel, how awesome would it be to have Carry On My Wayward Son start the movie?
