5 Ways TV Shows Continue After They're Cancelled

2. Feature Films

serenity Perhaps the holy grail of TV shows, regardless of how they ended, is making the jump to the big screen. This was certainly the case for one particular show, rather literally in fact, when Monty Python And The Holy Grail was released in 1975. Other series would also make this leap, Star Trek for instance, and the early 90s would see those such as The Addams Family and The Flintstones starting a trend in them being remade specifically for the silver screen. More recently however, although Hollywood jumping on the Brand Recognition bandwagon, this has resulted in more films being adapted from comic books than TV shows. Those that have earned the promotion have also generally done so thanks to the efforts of their fans. Despite being cancelled midway through its first season, Firefly became Serenity in a move that is frequently described as having "done the impossible". An achievement such as this should not be taken lightly, and the efforts of Firefly fans should be applauded. Just think about, the TV series was taken off the air after only eleven episodes had been broadcast, cotsumes, props and sets had been discarded and dismantled (Jayne's Bowie knife is reported to be the only physical part of Firefly that appeared in Serenity) and it was made into a Hollywood feature film. Although the power of fandom has had an effect on cancellation decisions of many shows, today audiences have to put their money where their fandom is if they want them to continue, and a Veronica Mars feature film was only greenlit after were made to send $2 Million rather than online petitions. Considering that even Hollywood has been having money troubles recently, it is no surprise the most popular current trend is something completely different.
