3. South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut (1999)
At the time this big screen adaption came to cinema, I was someone who enjoyed South Park. It wasn't as extreme as it later seasons but it was fun. The show was still in its 'Oh my God, you killed Kenny!' phase and even then Cartman was a much loved but sick and twisted character . So I was expecting more of the same thing. Bigger. bolder deaths. Cartman at his very worst. Sick jokes that you shouldn't laugh at but you do anyway. I was not expecting a full blown musical. The opening number 'Mountain Town Song' was beautifully cheesy, taking the mick out of all those big musicals...and then we were introduced to Terrance & Philip: The Movie. When Uncle F@~#!*r I came on the big screen, I had to remember to breathe from laughing so hard. It was a musical number that encapsulated the show entirely- sick, offensive and very, very, very funny. And as the film plays on and 'Mothers Against Canada' start a war between the US and Canada I was introduced to one great song after another. I'm Super. Kyle's mum is a bitch (Cartman at his very, very best). And of course, Blame Canada! This is the ultimate musical film for people who don't like musicals. It rips the genre apart in a way only South Park could achieve. And long before Les Miserables, we had this brilliant spoof, 'La Resistance'. A joyous unity of every song in the film in that big, bold style. A warning however. There is some bad language in the clip. But it's South Park so would you expect anything different?
