5. Not Another Teen Movie
I know at this point, most people hate all the parody movies that have come out recently, but some from the early 2000s have aged quite nicely! This type of film has always been around (Airplane!, Spaceballs, Monty Python, Galaxy Quest, etc.) but they started to take a very literal form with the Scary Movie franchise. Through the next decade we were "treated" to these movies that took a specific genre of film and tore it to pieces: Date Movie, Dance Flick, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Meet The Spartans, Another Gay Movie, Vampires SuckĀ and the list goes on! Most of these Genre Comedies (or "Gen-Coms") were terrible, but among them were a few gems, such as Not Another Teen Movie. This one was smart, choosing a genre that has always been around, was just getting to it's point of exhaustion, and flipped it on its head-- similar to the way Scream mocked the slasher-genre. So, why hasn't there been such a literal Gen-Com television show yet? The "Teen Movie" television counterpart, the "Teen Drama" is almost at the end of its life cycle and needs a major facelift so the audiences can appreciate them again. Dawson's Creek, Gilmore Girls, The OC, Gossip Girl, Skins and 90210 are all gone, and it's probably time that typical teenagers learn to laugh at themselves. This show, Not Another Teen Drama, could be made as a half hour comedy series as opposed to the typical hour-long drama we're used to for these types of characters. The beauty of it all is that none of the actors from the original movie are necessary for a TV show! The cast would be made up primarily of actors and actresses who are obviously way too old to be playing high school students, with maybe a big-name or two to play the main character's parents. Chrissy has three dates for the prom? Danny "borrows" his parent's car and kills a homeless man? Nancy's holding a sleepover in a crack-den? But instead of being drawn out over the course of a five episode arc, it'd all happen in one quick show. We'd get a glimpse into all the scandal-filled, dramatic hijinks of the everyday teenager, always ending with an over-the-top lesson to be learned by the characters - on steroids.
