5. Andy Hamilton's Search for Satan (2011)
Just how did the Devil get inside our heads? And who put him there? In 2011, on October the 31st for Halloween, award-winning comedy writer and performer Andy Hamilton (creator and star of Radio 4's acclaimed infernal comedy Old Harry's Game and regular Mock The Week panellist) explored just who the devil Satan is, where he comes from and what he has been up to for all this time. This was a 102 minute documentary that aired on BBC Four and was somewhat "co-hosted" by Michael Fenton Stevens playing the devil himself. As part of his research in to the topic, Hamilton spoke with Jewish, Muslim, Christian and secular scholars, giving equal opportunities to each of them to voice their feelings about the subject. The diminutive comic went all the way back to the time of ancient multiple-god belief systems, such as those of the ancient Egyptians or Greeks - dynasties whose godly pantheons enabled them to impose the problems of war and suffering onto specific and often minor deities, none of whom solely embodied pure evil - which was what started the idea of the devil. It was a very interesting and humorous look at a topic that could've been quite controversial, but it was done in a way that couldn't possibly have been taken as offensive - even by the most hardcore of religious zealots.
