2. Dead Set (2008)
Dead Set was a highly critically acclaimed and BAFTA-nominated British television horror drama created by the genius that is Charlie Brooker. Starting on E4 on the 27th of October 2008 and spread over five nights, leading up to and concluding on Halloween, the first episode was 45 minutes in length, while episodes 2-5 were 24 minutes, totalling 141 minutes - the full feature of which can now be bought as what is essentially a movie on DVD. The brilliant concept of Dead Set is that the show takes place (mostly) on the set of a fictional version of the real television show Big Brother - a reality show that has become something of a phenomenon all over the world, in which ordinary members of the public (and celebrities in the celebrity spin-off version) enter a house to be filmed over the course of the series for the pleasure of the viewing audience. The five episodes follow a zombie outbreak which isolates the housemates and production staff inside the Big Brother House, which quickly becomes a shelter from the undead. Initially, the housemates think it's a trick by the production team (as Big Brother isn't unfamiliar with dirty tricks - though this would be going a bit far), but they soon come to realise their very lives are at risk. The show features cameos from celebrities playing themselves, such as Marcus Bentley (the voice of Big Brother himself), Davina McCall, Krishnan Guru-Murthy and several former Big Brother housemates from the real world. Indeed, Davina McCall and many others become "zombified" in some brilliant scenes (including former series winner Brian Belo, which is hilarious). Andy Nyman puts in a fantastic performance as Patrick Goad - the fictional producer of this fictional version of Big Brother - playing a highly annoying (and very funny) character brilliantly (who ultimately meets a fitting demise) and is the star of the show. It also stars the likes of Jaime Winstone and BAFTA winner Adam Deacon. It's definitely worth watching - especially if you like zombie fiction. In fact, go out and buy the DVD now!
