6 Hellblazer Storylines Too Weird For Constantine

1. Anything Involving Swamp Thing, Sandman Or The Wider DC Universe

Hellblazer purists may remember that Constantine first appeared as a supporting character in Alan Moore€™s reinvention of Swamp Thing. In fact Jonny boy is very much the village bike of the DC Universe having enjoyed crossovers in Crisis on Infinite Earth and Neil Gaiman€™s The Books of Magic. He€™s shared panel space with The Phantom Stranger, Morpheus and Lucifer and is currently enjoying a team-up with Zatanna, Black Orchid and Deadman in Justice League Darker (a property which Guillermo Del Toro has expressed an interest in). It€™s true that DC has had way more success with its television properties than it has with the big screen. Arrow continues to draw respectable ratings with considerable hype around spin-off The Flash and there€™s eager speculation around Seth Rogen€™s adaptation of Preacher. If DC wanted to build the kind of genre-crossing, universe continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe it would be much easier to do it on the small screen, but it€™s just not going to happen. While Constantine will be broadcast on NBC, Arrow and The Flash are The CW€™s property and two competing television networks are not going to promote each other through crossovers of vastly different worlds. On the subject of some of Constantine€™s weirder allies making an appearance it€™s unlikely. NBC has pitched this firmly as noir-esque supernatural detective series à la...well Supernatural. Including a creature composed of moss or the King of Dreams would contrast far too much with a show determined to take itself seriously.
