6 Reasons Community Was Just Cancelled

Why the doors of Greendale Community College are now forever closed to us.

Excuseme Gif A pang of agonising but not entirely unexpected pain struck fans of NBC's manic, genre-hopping sitcom Community as it was announced that the show wouldn't be returning for that now-legendary-sounding sixth season - or, indeed, a movie. The fact that there was still even a Community to cancel is something of a miracle in itself, the show suffering as it did from relatively low ratings since the first season and its infamous creator Dan Harmon's well-documented removal and reinstatement on the series, so a better question to ask than "why was Community cancelled?" might well be "why wasn't it cancelled sooner?" Well, the fans certainly didn't hurt. Over the past five years Community has developed a dedicated following to match even the most die-hard pop cults, viewers creating their own fan art, connecting with the show's creators online and inundating Tumblr with thousands upon thousands of Greendale-related posts. It's rare that a TV comedy engenders such strong feelings from its audience, but Community had a unique relationship with its viewers that stemmed from its deep mythology, knowing jokes and John Hughes-ian ideology that connected the misfits that populated the show to the people watching it who they represented. And so it's sad to see something that touched so many (well, okay, not THAT many) people go, even if it was a long time coming. But what were the reasons for Community getting the axe? Was it inevitable? And if so, how did it take this long? The following is a list of 6 potential reasons why the doors of Greendale Community College are now forever closed to us.
