Seriously, how good is this cast? Thomas Middleditch - who stars as Richard, the up-and-coming developer who stumbles across a new form of file compression that results in a bidding wall - has only had small roles in recent films like The Wolf of Wall Street and The Kings of Summer, but here he gets to expand a little more on his nervous geeky persona into a more well-rounded anxiety-ridden young man (who, of course, champions Wozniak the coder over Jobs the salesman). Richatd works as part of an "incubator" along with Dinesh, played by Kumail Nanjiani, who's played memorable roles in idiosyncratic sketch show Portlandia and fellow HBO comedy Veep; Martin Starr as Gilfoyle, who is basically playing the same role he has in Party Down, Knocked Up and Adventureland, but it's a great one (he's a "LaVeyan Satanist with some theistic tendencies", whose upside-down cross tattoo looks upright when he puts his arm in the air); and "Big Head", Josh Brener's first big role since IFC sitcom Maron and the aforementioned and best-forgotten Internship. This motley crew work under the auspices of TJ Miller's The Dude-alike Erlich. Previously best known for being behind the camera in Cloverfield and in front as Ranger Jones in Yogi Bear, Miller has an easy scene-stealing charm and skill at delivering ridiculous lines. And that's all before you get to podcast superstar Andy Daly in a bit-part as the terrible doctor, Zach Woods (the eminently punchable Gabe from The Office), or the dearly-departed Christopher Evan Welch as the college-hating TED talker. It's an insanely good ensemble, and they're all at the top of their game.
