6 Reasons Why The Jinx Is F*cking Incredible
5. That Chilling Theme Music
To many, theme music doesnt exactly make or break a television show. I fully understand that logic, and for the most part, I dont pay too much attention to the opening jingle that proceeds a show. Yet, The Jinx has such a menacing theme song that sets up for what were about to witness it's impossible to ignore. The song Fresh Blood by the Eels, not only has an apt title, but is actually about a spooky tale of a werewolf-like man whos pursuing a very attractive Latino woman on the dark streets of Los Angeles. Of course Durst is no werewolf man, but the description of the song sort of fits perfectly within his persona. He has a kind of desire quality to his actions. The song expresses violence versus earnest introspection which mirrors Dursts muttered quasi-confessions that reveal themselves in the series finale.
And the similarities dont stop there. Songwriter E was estranged from his famous father, physicist Hugh Everett, and also participated in a documentary in part to investigate his own identity. Maybe Jarecki knew Es story and gave it great consideration when setting Fresh Blood as his theme? Even if not, this chilling song opens every episode with a sense of dread, subconsciously preparing us for the next set of discoveries and lies.
