6 Times Gotham Improved Batman's Mythology (And 4 Times It Failed)
1. Showcased The Bond Between Bruce And Alfred
Throughout its five-season run, Gotham was littered with some fantastic performances – and none were better than Sean Pertwee’s portrayal of Alfred Pennyworth.
As far back as the Batman mythos goes, Alfred has always been at the side of Master Bruce as his faithful servant and de facto father figure. Throughout the decades, we’ve all heard a million times over how it was Alfred who was left to raise Bruce after the tragic death of Thomas and Martha Wayne, and it was Alfred who has had to stand by Bruce’s side as he’s embarked on his mission to clean up the streets of Gotham City and beyond.
Now while we all know about this facet of Bruce Wayne’s life, rarely have the comic books fully showcased in great detail those younger years in which Alfred had to deal with a troublesome teen who was reeling from the death of his parents and the realisation of what a murky city Gotham really is.
By the time Gotham came to a close after five seasons, it was the bond between Bruce and Alfred that stood out as one of the very best elements of this particular exploration of Gotham City.
