7 Abandoned Game Of Thrones Plotlines

4. Lady Stoneheart And The Brotherhood Without Banners

Game Of Thrones Boat

It's not really fair to say the Stoneheart plot was abandoned since the undead incarnation of Catelyn Stark was never actually introduced to the show in the first place, but her exclusion altogether has left the small screen fate of a great group of characters up in the air.

The Brotherhood Without Banners are a group of outlaws led by Lord Beric Dondarrion, who has been brought back to life several times by the red priest Thoros of Myr. In Season 2 they come across Arya and her friends after they escape from Harrenhal. They treat them well, but when Melisandre comes for Gendry, Arya loses faith in their cause and bolts, only to fall into the clutches of the Hound.

This is the last we see of the Brotherhood, but the books are a different story. When they find Catelyn's mutilated corpse in the river, Beric sacrifices himself to return her to life and she then leads the group as the ruthless Lady Stoneheart. Towards the end of A Feast For Crows they capture Brienne of Tarth and Poderick Payne, sparing their lives only when Brienne promises Stoneheart that she'll hunt down Jamie Lannister.

Things have obviously played out very differently in the series, but hopefully Thoros, Anguy the archer and the others return in some capacity as they make for an entertaining bunch.
