7 Anime Series For People Who Don't Get Anime

3. One-Punch Man

One Punch Man
Madhouse

The reason every anime fan does 100 push-ups, sit-ups and squats every day, One-Punch Man is a hilarious superhero satire that lovingly dissects the genre. Following a bald hero that can defeat all his enemies in a single punch, this comedy mocks such superhero tropes as dramatic villain monologues, over-the-top superpower battles and exaggerated origin stories, all while creating a fun story with a host of lovable characters.

Clocking in at only 12 episodes, it's the perfect anime taster, not demanding much time investment yet also providing a quality introduction to the type of humour and quirkiness that makes this medium so unique. Whether it's the side-splitting way the titular hero acquired his powers or the anti-climatic method of which he dispatches his foes, the show's humour is some of the funniest and most accessible of any anime to date.

But even beneath the great humour, One-Punch Man's world is still a memorable one. Whether it's Saitama's cyborg disciple Genos, the monstrous Deep Sea King or any of the league of heroes, this is a world that sticks with you long after you've left it.

With the second season on the horizon, jumping into One-Punch Man now would not only be a great introduction to the show, but also to anime as a whole.
