7 Problems With True Detective Season 2 That Nobody Wants To Admit
2. The Plot Isn't As Immediately Grabbing
Season one introduced viewers to an utterly compelling pair of central figures - establishing an immediate tension between the pair, as well as a fully developed set of three-dimensional traits and flaws. The plot was also sprinkled with nuggets of unsettling, irresistible information: a young girls' ritualistic murder, rumours of a satanic cult, and abstract (but intriguing) clues such as "the Yellow King" and "Carcosa". From the trailer and released information of season two, nothing quite measures up. The protagonists are investigating the murder of a man involved in local transportation, an introduction not nearly as grabbing as the sordid nature of season one. Fortunately there's plenty of depravity in store (at least one orgy scene is rumoured, and sexual scandal is thought to be a key theme) but nobody is immediately excited by talk of traffic patterns and freeway plans.
