7 Problems With WandaVision That Nobody Wants To Admit
6. Monica Rambeau Deserved Her Own Origin Story
Last seen as a child in Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau was a surprising and welcome addition to WandaVision’s roster of characters. Known in the comics as the second hero to take up the title of Captain Marvel, fans were eager to see what the show would do with this popular character.
And while seeing Monica trapped in Westview, as well as the show recapping what happened to her when she came back from the Blip, was exciting to follow, she felt a little superfluous to Wanda’s story after she was sent rocketing out of the Westview anomaly by the Scarlet Witch herself.
While the fourth episode took its time focusing on Monica's grief over her mother's death and she did play a crucial role in getting through to Wanda and Vision regarding the true nature of their surroundings, she had less and less of a part to play as the series went on.
The final episode is perhaps the most egregious, with Monica being side-lined with Fake Pietro for much of the running time before briefly showing up to save Wanda’s children from Hayward’s attempted execution.
Monica is also enough of a complex and important character in the Marvel franchise to deserve her own superhero origin story, rather than being cast as a secondary character here. Let's hope that Captain Marvel 2 pushes her to the forefront a little more.
