7 Reasons Why Girls Season 3 Is Already Better Than Season 2
7. Christopher Abbott Has Gone
In season one we felt sorry for Charlie (Abbott). He was kind - perhaps too kind - and Marnie was not really appreciating him. Then, in season two when he got his act together - when he became this rockstar businessman and had a new girlfriend - he became a very different sort of Charlie. As much as Marnie didn't appreciate his kindness, we could see why she was getting annoyed. In the second season he, however, was cold towards her - saying they were having casual sex, that they weren't a couple. Of course, we could argue that he was doing this because she had hurt him in the past but we love Marnie - she's one of the girls, we're on her side - and he was coming across as arrogant. As well as this, he was in control. When we met Marnie she was a woman with her life completely in order. To have Charlie in charge was uncomfortable - we didn't like seeing Marnie having to bend to his ways. When we heard he wouldn't be returning for season three are only thoughts were "so when is it coming back?" Forget about Abbott, we didn't like him anyway. His character had run its course. If anything, it's a good thing Abbott and Dunham had creative differences because there's room for the character of Marnie to grow. Where exactly could their relationship storyline have progressed? If not another break-up down the line. The removal of Charlie's character may seem random, Marnie, who we left at the end of season two was happy. Now, she's alone and estranged from him but it makes sense. Charlie's arrogance was at its peak and it seems fitting he would leave. Thus, Christopher Abbott has gone and for that, we're thankful.
