7 Reasons John Oliver Is Britain's Greatest Export
5. The Bugle
Before his across-the-pond migration, Oliver worked frequently with comedian Andy Zaltzman, who specialises in political satire and genuinely good puns (they're rare but they do exist). Their shows included a double-act at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and co-hosting the mixed bill show Political Animal. Though the New York move put an end to their live collaborations, in 2007 The Times Online offered them a chance to co-host a weekly news podcast. The Bugle was born and had the dual benefits of being both incredibly funny and actually informative. Over the last 8 years, The Bugle's gone through a number of changes, most notably becoming independent in 2012 (the hosts were assured that their frequent Murdoch-baiting during the News of the World scandal had nothing to do with the end of their relationship with The Times). Though its frequency has decreased as Oliver's career has taken off, it's grown an audience across both of the host's continents (and elsewhere). Apart from the generally high quality of the show, it's a genuine delight hearing two comedians at the height of their powers enjoy a rapport like Oliver's and Zaltzman's.
