7 Things A Song Of Ice And Fire Did Better Than Game Of Thrones

2. Loras And Renly

"When the sun has set, no candle can replace it."

A Song of Ice and Fire is not starved for beautiful sentences, but the above line from A Storm of Swords just about takes the cake. Show watchers won't believe who said them: Loras Tyrell.

In the books, Loras and his late lover Renly have a beautiful relationship. Unfortunately, not many fantasies show positive gay couples, or, for that matter, gay couples at all. Seeing their love represented so well is refreshing. Book Loras mourns book Renly for a long time after his death, since he his heart died along with him.

However, show Loras gets over Renly's death in all of a deleted scene where his sister Margaery gives him a stern talking to. He then spends the next few seasons sleeping around as if Renly had never existed. The change from book to show diminishes their love and shortchanges LGBTQ+ fans looking for some representation.
