7 Things Supergirl Needs To Do Next

6. Kara€™s Alien Nature

The biggest difference between Supergirl and her male counterpart is their relationship to their home planet Krypton. While Clark was sent to earth as a baby, raised by humans and only learned more about his home world much later in life. Kara didn€™t come to earth until she was twelve, after spending her childhood beneath Krypton€™s red sun. Though we€™ve heard bits and pieces about Krypton so far, none of it has been all that in-depth. It tells us nothing about Krypton as a society in this continuity, or how Kara feels about it in relation to her adopted home on Earth. How did she take to earth and its culture (and yellow sun) when she was younger? Was it strange to her? Did she have difficulty adapting? The pilot condensed Kara€™s origin to about ten minutes, before immediately jumping into her twenties, long after she€™d become accustomed to Earth and had a basic control of her powers. In fact, a good portion of the time the show seems to forget Kara is an alien at all, apart from her powers. It could make for an interesting bit of world building if Kara were to off-offhandedly mention Kryptonian customs and conventions. Does Kara retain the Kryptonian religion, the worship of the god Rao, or did she take on a human religion as well? There€™s no end to what you could do with a tapestry of alien culture, and it would do a lot for Kara and her place in the world to reinforce her nature as an alien being every now and then.
