7 TV Finales That Pissed Off The Fans

2. Seinfeld: The Main Characters Went To Prison

The Sopranos Ending
NBC

One evening in May of 1998, around 76 million people tuned in to Seinfeld, eager to see how one of America's most popular sitcoms would bring the curtain down.

Would Jerry and Elaine get back together properly, would Newman get some sort of comeuppance, or would George and Jerry get the TV deal they so craved?

Out of that list, series creator Larry David only allowed the latter to happen, but before the pair could celebrate their feat, they were carted off to jail along with Kramer and Elaine for failing to intervene while a carjacking was taking place.

The verdict the foursome was sent down on was "criminal indifference", which might seem like an appropriate way to end a show about nothing starring four individuals with little moral fibre between them, but the fans didn't seem to agree.

Seinfeld's finale was one of the most watched of all time, and also one of the most polarising, with many viewers having hoped for some kind of redemption for the main players ahead of the episode.

Even some of the main cast have laid into the episode in interviews conducted over the years. Maybe they should have just abruptly faded to black in a diner.
