7 Ups & 1 Down For Star Trek: Lower Decks 5.10 - The New Next Generation

6. UP — Schrödinger's Caitian

Like the contents of that famous box before it is opened, this is really two UPs at once. First, the "Schrödinger Possibility Field" was an inspired bit of real-world-meets-Star-Trek physics. Second, and most notably for this entry, in The New Next Generation, the Cerritos' very own cat, coherent only unto herself, was magnificently, very much alive.

Throughout season five (and otherwise), Doctor T'Ana has existed in two states simultaneously. Forever funny, she has, at times, pushed the feline beyond the limits of what is tolerable on the ears — box or no box. Here, T'Ana, without a great deal of dialogue, says a fine 'f**k you' to any Schrödinger-type who might think to confine her. On the whole, The New Next Generation is a fond farewell to her and all the upper deckers.

The 'S' in S-field' was also for 'sex'. The following is an actual conversation that actually happened:

T'Ana: "Wanna play sexy Treasure Island on the holodeck?"
Shaxs: "Only if I get to be Long John f**ker."
T'Ana: "God, I love you."

The 'S' in 'S-field' was equally for 's**t-talking' the Klingons. Part of that might well have been a DOWN, but "[Klingons] always like their ships to look like big stupid birds," was far too deliciously on point to quibble (a tribble) at.
