People who find indiscreet sex a problem will no doubt have stopped watching after the first episode, though even those of a more liberal disposition have been shocked by the levels of sexual deviancy in Game of Thrones. Critics of HBOs adaptation claim that the author does not use sex pornographically as the show tends to do, but as a means of character or plot development that is not meant to be dwelt on, only used to progress the story. Why Its Wrong: The fact of the matter is that Martins saga is set in a fictional version of real Medieval Europe, where a casual attitude towards sex was the norm. Prostitution was rife, and it was a profitable enterprise, despite opposition from religious leaders and noblemen, who would punish those they believed to be sexually promiscuous. One recorded story from the 13th century that could fit right into Game of Thrones is the one of King Philip of France, who had a number of his Knights publicly disembowlled after he discovered they had been intimate with his daughters. HBO are simply using the source material to create a world they believe to be a true representation of the one Martin envisaged.
