There's always been a lot of love for stories centered around the apocalypse. There's just something about a "What if..." scenario that is so appealing to audiences. That being said, with so many plots focused around this one idea, it can start to feel a bit like everyone is copying off of each other.

Dr. Stone, however, takes the usual end of the world tropes and puts an interesting spin on them. We follow the main character, Senku Ishigami, a science whiz who finds himself stuck in a world where all human beings have been turned into stone.

Along with his best friend, Taiju, the duo try to release as many humans as they can. However, they have to fight off their enemy, Tsukasa, who has his own criteria on who should be cured from being petrified.

The characters and their journeys are surprisingly complex, which can be difficult to do with a show as far-fetched as this. However, the studio and writing team have done a great job with balancing the tone of the show, making it a roller-coaster of a watch.

TMS have done some brilliant work on the animation, as they're able to perfectly mix a beautiful landscape with the more chaotic scenes, all while making the transitions to those points seem seamless.
