The former hand of the Mad King, Jon Connington is yet another character that would have added another fascinating twist to the chaotic battle for the Iron Throne.

A close friend of Rhaegar Targaryen, Connington is exiled by the Mad King just before his defeat at the hands of Robert Baratheon; he is believed to have drunk himself to death in exile.

In the show, Tyrion travels to meet Daenerys in the company of Varys before being abducted by Jorah Mormont. His literary counterpart is instead put aboard a ship sailing to Mereen, commanded by Griff, a blue haired member of the Golden Company traveling with his son, the ultra creatively named Young Griff.

Be it in the show or Martin's books, deceiving the sharpest dwarf in Westeros has proved about as successful as trying to feed salad to a dragon. Over the course of the journey, Tyrion confides in "Griff" that he is well aware that the blue haired mercenary is actually Jon Connington.

Aspects of Connington's gripping narrative have been adapted into existing Game of Thrones plot lines; he catches greyscale trying to rescue Tyrion, a storyline bestowed on Ser Jorah in the HBO adaptation. However, the most intriguing aspect of Connington's story is his "son". In a twist that would have melted the brains of the most rabid conspiracy theorists, "Young Griff" is revealed to have no blood relation to Connington; he is the true born heir to the Iron Throne.
