8 Most Mindbogglingly Meta TV Show Cameos Ever

6. Sigur Rós - Game Of Thrones

Sigur Rós' brand of icy alt-rock definitely isn't for everyone, and their Game of Thrones cameo referenced this. In the episode "The Lion and the Rose", the Icelandic outfit begins playing a gentle, haunting version of Rains of Castemere at Joffrey's wedding feast, using a pump organ-style medieval instrument.

Margaery seems enthralled and leans in closer when all of a sudden the petulant, adolescent king tosses some gold at the band with a dismissive "very good". The music stops abruptly and the humiliated musicians are left to scramble on the floor for the loose change.

It's a funny encapsulation of Sigur Rós' divisive, refined sound. The filmmakers use the band's real-world reputation to smartly demonstrate Joffrey's vulgar tastes. Fortunately, as those who have seen the episode will know, the king gets his comeuppance.
