8 Mysteries From DS9 And Voyager That Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Should Answer
1. What's The Status Of The Borg Collective?
Another question Star Trek: Picard has (as of "Broken Pieces") been cagey about: Is the Borg Collective still a thing?
The Artifact plays an important role in Picard's first season, disabled by submatrix collapse and allegedly cut off from the larger Collective, but is the Collective as we knew it still even around?
Star Trek: Voyager's series finale featured Janeway and company killing the Borg Queen and destroying the Borg's transwarp hub, which may or may not have crippled their ability to traverse great distances. The Star Trek: Picard episode "Broken Pieces" established that the Borg's transwarp corridors are still around, but after the hub was destroyed in Voyager, can they still use those corridors?
Michael Chabon has shed some light on this on his Instagram, saying that the writers left the fate of the Borg as a collective intentionally vague. But is the Artifact just one of hundreds or thousands of Borg vessels trapped outside of the Delta Quadrant and cut off from the Borg Collective proper? Are there way more XBs in the world of Star Trek: Picard than just those we've seen in season one?
Season two would rightly broaden our understanding of the TNG-era's greatest foes – even if they're diminished, they're still interesting and scary af.
