6. Tags And Crests Are Better Than Gym Badges
Simply put, the tags and crests in 'Digimon' served a purpose. They allowed The DigiDestined to use them in conjunction with their Digivices to allow their Digimon to digivolve even further. Gym Badges, on the other hand, merely serve as a means to be allowed entry into a tournament. And Ash doesn't even have to beat a town's Gym Leader to earn them in some cases. Also, anyone can earn a Gym Badge, which means that there are numerous other trainers out there with similar badges. However, the crests were specific to each DigiDestined Tai had the Crest Of Courage, Matt had the Crest Of Friendship, Sora had the Crest Of Love, Mimi had the Crest Of Sincerity, Izzy had the Crest Of Knowledge, Joe had the Crest Of Reliability, T.K. had the Crest Of Hope and Kari had the Crest Of Light. Each of them had to prove themselves by displaying each trait before the crest was made available to them. So, even though it was tailor-made for their specific use, they still had to earn it. Now, whereas the Gym Badges do make for snazzy ornaments to adorn Ash's trademark vest, they really serve no other purpose than to act as decorations, especially once Ash eventually loses the tournament they're required for. Sure, the argument could be made that they're reminders of the numerous milestones Ash has accomplished throughout the years, but so are the friends he's made and the Pokemon he's captured. Both of which are less likely to outlive their usefulness, unlike the Gym Badges. The tags and crests, on the other hand, are vital to The DigiDestined's success and continue to serve a purpose. So, as far as trinkets go, they're definitely the better collectible. Plus, they look cool.
