8 Reasons Digimon Was A Better Show Than Pokemon

1. It Had An Ending

The premise of 'Pokemon' is simple; Ash wants to be the greatest Pokemon master of all time. Unfortunately, it's a task that is near-impossible to ever fully accomplish, which is why it's the perfect premise for a children's TV Show and the basis for a lucrative franchise. There is no foreseeable end point to Ash's quest to become the best. However, the drawback is that you constantly need to find a new audience and draw new viewers in. People grow up and grow out of liking 'Pokemon' so, to keep it interesting, you need to make subtle changes to the formula. 'Digimon' never had this problem because, rather than force The DigiDestined to relive similar adventures in different locations with different Digimon, they allowed them to grow up. Some got married and had kids, some became rich and famous, but all were allowed to move past their childhood adventures. Most TV Shows intended for children have a habit of neglecting coming up with a proper conclusion for their story. This is because, in addition to most of their tales being stand-alone, most shows aim to stay on the air for as long as possible. So it's not really in the best interest of longevity to wrap up story lines with definitive endings. If Ash were to ever fully realize his dream of being the best Pokemon Master, there'd be no point in continuing his story. So, instead, most kid's shows opt to do a soft reset at the end of every episode, which is why Ash is constantly stuck on a loop of trying and never quite accomplishing his goals. 'Digimon', meanwhile, provided a satisfying conclusion to their epic adventure. The villains were vanquished, both worlds were saved and The DigiDestined actually fulfilled their destiny. They set out to do something and they actually did it, unlike Ash, who always seems to fail whenever it matters the most. Then, in the second season, save for T.K. and Kari, they introduced new characters and built upon what they had already established. In fact, each subsequent season of 'Digimon' tried to do something different and creative with their story. And while none of the later seasons were ever as successful as the initial premise, the people behind them have to be admired for trying something different and attempting to evolve along with their audience. That's why, although 'Pokemon' is clearly the more successful franchise, 'Digimon' is more worthy of revisiting.
