6. Westeros Is A Mash-Up Of England And Ireland

Okay, so this one isn't technically confirmed, but it's far too interesting to leave off this list. If you take a look at Westeros, it looks extremely like an amalgamation of Britain and an inverted Ireland. Not only is there a distinct point of connection between the two islands, but the off-shoots on the right side of the inverted Ireland are so similar as to be almost identical. And if that's not enough to convince you, the location of Hadrian's wall in Britain matches up exactly where The Wall stands in Westeros. When it came to detailing the geography of the series, it's clear Martin drew heavy inspiration from real-life.
