8 Times Game Of Thrones Really Crossed The Line

1. Ramsay Rapes Sansa (Episode 5.6)

So here it is: the most notable instance when Game of Thrones crossed a line. Ramsay Bolton is currently positioned as something of a Joffrey; he's a highly detestable sadist of a character who needs to be murdered in the most horrific way possible (ahem). The scene in question had Ramsay raping Sansa Stark on their wedding night whilst Reek (Theon Greyjoy) was forced to watch. Talk about uncomfortable for everyone. After it aired, the incident broke the internet, of course; many declared themselves done with Game of Thrones in general, and it's easy to see why. Whilst many will argue that the scene in question was just another part of the story - that it needed to happen for one reason or another - others felt as though Sansa's rape was the show being controversial for controversy's sake, especially since the scene in question wasn't actually in the book. It's hard to defend the scene, based on the notion that - once again - Game of Thrones seemed to be relying on rape to develop its character (or so the writers claimed). Despite actress Sophie Turner's defending of the scene, there's something inherently nasty about a TV show that puts Sansa Stark through hell as many times as Game of Thrones does. Disagree that these moments went too far? Are there any other times when Game of Thrones crossed a line? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
