The Episode: Apparently you really can't do some things on television. Specifically, make light of adoption. But more on that in a second. You Can't Do That On Television is a Canadian television programme that essentially acted as a sketch comedy show, commonly focusing on contemporary pop culture. It aired locally in 1979 before airing internationally in 1981.

The show's eighth season (which aired in 1987) features an episode titled Adoption. In the episode, Vanessa becomes frightened at the thought that she and Doug might be related, and so attempts to discover whether or not she's adopted.

Why It Was Banned: With the show being primarily a comedy, the topic is treated quite light-heartedly, with a bunch of gags throughout the episode. The fact that these jokes were about adoption, however, was quickly realised to be a poor idea. The sheer bad taste of the humour was deemed reason enough for the episode to be banned.
