8 TV Heroes You Didn't Realise Probably Died Horrible Deaths

1. Everyone - The Wire

The Wire's fifth season wasn't great, at least not by the show's own ridiculously lofty standards, but the final episode, -30-, drives home the central themes of the entire show. The Wire's ending, in some ways, barely even qualifies as one. There's no happy resolution, and nor are most of the storylines tied up in concrete fashion.

We see McNulty's career coming to an end, Marlo attempting to be a legitimate businessman, Michael becoming a stick-up man, and Carcetti elected governor, but none of this is really 'The End' as such.

What the finale - and that last shot of McNulty standing with Baltimore's skyline in the background - really tells us is that all of this is just ongoing. It's cyclical. Marlo is the new Stringer. Michael is the new Omar. But Baltimore is still the same old Baltimore. Life goes on, and so does death. All of these people are going to go the same way as those who came before them. There's no escaping it. The game is the game.
