8 TV Moments That Didn't Live Up To The Hype
4. The Lost Finale
The finale episode for The Sopranos certainly upset fans around the world, but it was hardly as divisive as the Lost finale. Lost was a purposefully ambiguous series, and while each season managed to explain a little more of the mythos as it went along, that didn't make it any less confusing.
Still, it featured some of the greatest characters ever written for television, and it pulled in viewers consistently. Lost finally came to an end with its sixth season, and the final episode, "The End," managed to draw 13.5 million Americans to their televisions when it aired.
The episode featured the execution of the Man in Black's plan to destroy the island while Jack moved to thwart his plans, once and for all. While that was going on, the nature of the season's "flash-sideways" narrative device was revealed, which helped to explain the true nature of the island, and the underlying theme of the series.
"The End" really did a number on fans, and there was a clear division in the fandom. About half the fans love the finale while the other half hated it. There have been hundreds of articles written trying to explain the finale to people, and while it did pull in a huge number of viewers, about half of them felt the hype wasn't justified.
