8 Utterly Ridiculous TV Castings That Totally Rocked Anyway

2. Radiohead As Radiohead €“ South Park

Scott Tenorman is not a nice character. He conned a boy several years younger than him out of ten dollars by making him believe buying pubic hair would cause puberty, and then subjected the same defenceless child to multiple rounds of public humiliation for his attempts to reclaim his stolen possessions. If Eric Cartman were on trial I imagine the defence's opening statement would look something like this. However, despite all his of flaws, no jury in their right minds would ever agree that the punishment of making Tenorman unwittingly eat the remains of his dead parents quite matched his crimes. 'Scott Tenorman Must Die' is a landmark episode in the history of South Park. Not only did it set a new, dark precedent for the animated series, it also gave Radiohead the rare honour of playing themselves in a guest role on the show. Radiohead aren't known for being the most media-friendly band in existence, so to see them on them make an appearance in something that isn't an incredibly awkward news interview is one thing, but to then watch them mock a ninth grader as he mourns his dead parents in a twisted Titus Andronicus-esque turn of events is quite another. When you think about it, Radiohead's appearance on South Park isn't completely ridiculous €“ both the band and show often make a commentary on society and popular culture through their work. Furthermore, the group played their part in one of the most critically acclaimed episodes on South Park ever made. If we take nothing else from the experience, we at least know to never, ever p*ss Cartman off again.
