A writer who is hugely hot property at the moment is geek god Neil Gaiman, with films and TV series based on many of his novels, comics and short stories in the works (more on one of them later). One that currently isn't - but really should be - is The Books of Magic, a comic series Gaiman wrote for Vertigo. Known for being Harry Potter before Harry Potter even existed, the comic saw bespectacled boy Timothy Hunter discover that it is his destiny to become the world's greatest magician and so he is mentored in the art of sorcery by fairly obscure DC characters such as the Phantom Stranger and Doctor Occult. While you might think the (largely only superficial) similarities with Potter would hinder it getting to the screen, it just proves that such all-ages fantasy stories are popular with a wide audience. DC would surely have a hit on their hands if they made a Books of Magic TV series.
