9 Famous TV Characters Who Were Originally Much Smaller Roles

6. Vincent Chase - Entourage

Entourage Vincent Chase
HBO

The Character: Vince Chase (Adrian Grenier) is the movie star at the center of HBO's Hollywood comedy. Born and raised in Queens, New York, Chase found sudden stardom and brings his childhood friends along on his road to success. Vinny and the boys party, womanize and "bro" their way through the annals of the movie industry with plenty of famous guest stars popping in.

What Almost Happened? Filling the role of Vince was a struggle for the show early on. It was no easy mission to find a TV star who was believable as a movie star. The casting proved so difficult that at one point the creators decided the show would focus on Vince's friends and keep the movie star in the background.

Finally, Grenier came in to read and argued that diminishing the role Vince plays was a mistake. His arrogant attitude convinced creators that he was right for the part and that Vince could in fact carry the show.

How'd It Turn Out? Grenier was probably right to point out that the original concept was not the greatest idea, but it's hard to say that Vince saved the show. In fact, Vince Chase might be one of the least interesting lead characters of a major TV series.

He's certainly the least interesting member of the Entourage and it strains credibility that his guy would be a major movie star. Plus, it might have saved us from that Entourage movie.
