9 Game Of Thrones Characters Who Could Defeat The Night King

6. Jaime Lannister

Once renowned as perhaps the finest swordsman in the Seven Kingdoms, Jaime Lannister hasn't managed to be anything more than passable with his left hand since losing his right.

That should be a major mark against his name when considering characters who could defeat the Night King, but Jaime has such a brilliant arc (more so in the books, but the show finally got there in the Season 7 finale) that he should be a contender.

Although the biggest murder in his destiny would appear to be that of Cersei, there's a lot of support for him being Azor Ahai reborn. Indeed, after Jon and Daenerys (the top two contenders) then his case is one of the more interesting. He wasn't born amidst smoke and salt, but we could look at his emergence from the lake after the Loot Train Battle, and subsequent turn against Cersei, as being a rebirth of sorts. He might have Targaryen blood, with one theory suggesting he and Cersei and actually the Mad King's children. There's also the idea that, if he did kill Cersei, it'd represent Azor Ahai killing both a lion and his beloved, while it'd be a subversion of the expected Azor Ahai/Prince That Was Promised prophecy/prophecies.

It is admittedly a stretch in parts, but there's something fitting about Jaime completing his redemption arc by slaying another King to save the realm, only this time everyone understands the action and he becomes a true hero.
