9 Game Of Thrones Warriors Who Could Defeat The Night's King

"Winter is coming. This one will be long, and dark things will come with it." 

The late Maester Aemon's ominous words all the way back in season 1 proved to be an understatement when we finally met the creature leading the White Walkers and witnessed those chilling powers.

This gnarled monstrosity looked slightly different to the other Walkers, and the ice-crown on his head has led to fans referring to him as the Night's King, with only scant (and accidental) confirmation to back that theory up.

According to legend, the Night's King was once the thirteenth Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, who fell in love with a woman "with skin as white as the moon and eyes like blue stars" who many believe to be a female Walker. Did their "unholy union" spawn the creatures that came to be known as the Others? Whatever the true origins of the character on the HBO series, he is without question very bad news for the rest of Westeros and is currently making his way to The Wall with his army of the dead.

So who exactly is going to stop him? Jon Snow was the obvious favourite until his "death" at the end of season 5 (though there's always a chance he'll return in some capacity), but there are plenty of other characters that could step up to the plate in the remaining seasons...

This is the longest of longest shots, but the only thing George R.R. Martin loves more than surprises is letting the underdogs win. Tommen Baratheon is clearly no warrior, and probably couldn't even lift the Valyrian steel sword his Grandfather Tywin gave him let alone swing it... but still, he does HAVE that Valyrian steel sword. 

Tommen may not come across particularly brave (or clever for that matter), but unlike his nefarious older brother, he does at least seem to have a good heart and there may be more to him than meets the eye. He clearly loves Margaery (unlucky, kid) a lot, so if she was to befall a similar fate to to his mother Cersei - or worse - we could well see a change come over the lad.

How would he ever find himself in the same proximity to the Night's Kingl, short of the army of the dead making it all the way to King's Landing? It's important to remember that Tommen is the king - so if all-out war is declared against the Walkers it'll be him leading the charge. Make your "sure he's shaking in his boots" jokes now. 

And you never know though - Tommen may have gotten more than just his blond hair from his father...
