9 Horror Movie References You Never Noticed In Anime

2. Carole & Tuesday

Rosario And Vampire
Netflix

Carole & Tuesday is, at heart, a musical sci-fi anime about a pampered rich girl who leaves her family on Mars, post-terraforming, and takes up a gig in a musical duo. The anime adaptation was developed by Bones in commemoration of their 20th anniversary. Bones is the art studio behind such seminal anime as Wolf's Rain, Soul Eater, both Fullmetal Alchemist anime, as well as the previously mentioned My Hero Academia.

One of the characters in Carole & Tuesday is Gus Goldman, a former rock drummer who helps the musical duo try to become famous. Gus, a Texan by birth, convinces another old Texan living the retired life on Mars, Tobe, to become Carole and Tuesday's producer.

Tobe is an angry, bearded Texan who is first seen rushing out and brandishing an axe at the girls. He's based on Tobe Hooper, originator of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, as well as collaborator and director of the Spielberg-backed horror classic Poltergeist.

Didn't expect a Texas Chainsaw Massacre reference in such a cute little slice-of-Martian-life musical anime, didja?
