9 Saddest TV Episodes of All Time

3. "Jurassic Bark" Futurama

Now I am not even slightly a dog person, hence why the film Marley and Me was nowhere to be seen in my previous post, however this episode of Futurama was so extraordinarily powerful, that even someone like me (I have a dog phobia) couldn't help but well up a little. This is also what I consider to be the greatest Futurama episode ever made. It was even nominated for an Emmy award.

For those who haven't seen this, the episode shows Fry finding a fossilized dog in the future that he recognizes to be his dog from a thousand years ago in the past, Seymour. The professor tells Fry that he could bring the dog back to life with all his memories intact. Fry initially is very excited about the prospect, until he realizes that the dog became fossilized and died years after he knew him, and would have probably have made new memories in his absence, and probably wouldn't remember him. Because of this new information, Fry decides not to bring the dog back from the dead.

However, and here comes the truly heartbreaking scene that upset me and stayed with me for a very long time (until they criminally changed this dogs fate in later seasons), in a flashback which ends the episode, it is revealed that Fry's dog grew old waiting for years and years for him to return, but he never did. In fact, the last scene shows Seymour dying as an old dog, still waiting in the same spot for his beloved owner to return. It makes my eyes water every single time I see it, and it is an extremely powerful montage played over an extraordinarily chillingly sad song Connie Francis' "I Will Wait For You" , which is only made sadder when you realize that Seymour very almost got his wish to see Fry again, but didn't.

Considering this is an animated program, at least in part aimed at a child audience, this is probably the saddest thing they will ever have had to see. Yes, even sadder than Up and Bambi.
