9 Stupidly Risky Plans From TV's Most Notorious Villains
5. Walt Blows Up Tuco's Place Breaking Bad
Admittedly at this point Walt is the furthest away from a villain on this list (you could argue he's more of an anti-hero), but seeing as Breaking Bad chronicles his descent into child-poisoning, multiple prisoner-whacking and just outright villainy then it'd be remiss not to include one of his crazy plans. And what could be crazier than his first step into the Heisenberg persona? At the time of Crazy Handful Of Nothin', Walt is still just dipping his toe into the drug world, and come across is first set-back in the shape of Tuco, a local drug kingpin who beats up Jesse and steals the blue sky meth he had to trade. Walt's on a hiding to nothing here if he doesn't retaliate, it sets a worrying precedent, but if he does, he risks the wrath of a psychopath. So faced with a Hobson's Choice, the White Paterfamilias chooses to make a statement by lobbing some fulminated mercury during a meeting in Tuco's office. The offending chemical spectacularly ignites, wrecking the office and leaving the gangster visibly shaken but very much impressed with the apparently out-of-his-depth chemistry teacher. Now with a new-found healthy respect for his business partner (who happens to be holding the rest of the fulminated mercury), Tuco lets Walt leave unmolested and with the money recovered. Obviously it's a cool scene, but it could've all played out very differently. Remember, Tuco isn't the most stable man around that's kind of the reason Walt's in his office in the first place and is known to take copious amounts of drugs. You can't help but feel his decision-making abilities can't help but be impaired, and if you combine that with a criminal's desire to save face and establish themselves, it was highly likely Tuco could've graphically punished Mr. White then and there. Sure, he can't kill him Walt's product is simply too good, making him a valuable asset but that doesn't stop him from torturing him later down the line, when Walt isn't holding a bag of highly explosive materials. It's lucky for the future druglord that Tuco's really quite forgiving. Also, if there had been anything else in the room that was slightly explosive a very real possibility for a group of tooled up gangsters that explosion could've also claimed Walt's life, along with everyone else in the room. Hell, if Walt had dropped the bag during the shockwave, they'd have probably had to scoop his remains off the floor with a shovel.
