9 TV Shows That Blew You Away With Just One Season

6. Terra Nova

20th Century Fox

Not all television programmes that are cancelled prematurely are done so purely because of ratings. While ratings will always be a factor, there are many that manage to persist on nothing more than moderate ratings without facing the axe. The problem with Terra Nova, unfortunately, was the cost of actually making it.

Airing in 2011, Terra Nova focused on the Shannon family and their experiences as members of a colony set up eighty-five million years in the earth's past. The Shannons were fleeing a dystopian, overpopulated and hyper-polluted present. Despite a rather rote sci-fi plot, the talent involved (including Steven Spielberg) excelled the show to greater heights, and it really seemed to be a promising, family appropriate romp.

Unfortunately, as mentioned, the cost was steep. The nature of Terra Nova meant CGI was frequently a must, animating every thing from time travel sequences to dinosaurs. For a television series the CGI was often breathtaking, and that's one of the things that made it so notably interesting. But it's believed that the show's pilot cost a whopping fourteen million dollars €“ coupled with the rest of the season, the investment was simply too high.
